IT'S SAFE. Studies have shown that the outcomes for the health of mother and baby are the same for low-risk women whether planned at home, a birth center, or the hospital. What is different is the lower rate of medical interventions such as inductions, episiotomy, vacuum suction, or C-sections in those birthing outside of the hospital (British Journal of Medicine, June 2005). IT'S PERSONAL. At The Birth House, you will know everyone at your birth. You can include your family and your children in ways that are not possible at the hospital. The midwives that you have been getting to know throughout your pregnancy will be the ones present for you during labor and birth, no surprise on-call practitioners. Women feel relaxed and comfortable in this familiar and home-like environment, allowing the birth process to proceed more normally.
IT'S EMPOWERING. Giving birth is an important transition for any family. Out of hospital birth encourages full participation by the birthing woman and her supporters in all aspects of her care, resulting in a clear affirmation of her power as a woman and mother.
IT’S NATURAL. With the cesarean section rate approaching 35% in this country, one out of every three women going to the hospital will have their baby surgically. Cesarean rates in midwife-run birth centers are approximately 4.4%. Appropriate use of technology can be life-saving; over-use of technology can do harm to mothers and babies. Women choose to birth at The Birth House because they know their midwives are experts in normal labor and birth who know when to transfer if intervention does become necessary. The midwives are there to encourage you, suggest different laboring positions, massage you, and facilitate your normal birth without unnecessary technology or drugs. Waterbirth in our gorgeous birth pool is also a wonderfully natural option for women birthing at The Birth House.
