  • Payment Policies at The Birth House

The cost of having a baby at The Birth House is about 1/3 the cost of a hospital birth. This makes it a very affordable option, even for those who must pay out-of-pocket. We offer timely payment discounts based on family income to help make it affordable for anyone who wants the kind birth experience we offer at The Birth House.

Although insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed, many of our clients do receive reimbursement for our services. We require that all fees are paid by your last month of pregnancy, and we will file with your insurance company following your 6 week post partum visit.

We cannot accept MaineCare.

We can accept New Hampshire Medicaid.

  • Our Global Fee includes:
  • Prenatal appointments; monthly until 28 weeks, every two weeks from 28 weeks to 36 weeks, birth team meeting in  the birth room at 36 weeks, and weekly appointments from 36 weeks until birth.
  • Midwifery care for mother and baby during your labor, birth and immediate postpartum (2-6 hours after birth) with two CPM’s and a student-midwife.
  • Use of The Birth House facility for your labor and birth, including our birthing tub and birthing supplies.
  • Postpartum visits; home visits at 1 day and 3 days postpartum, office visits at one-week, two weeks, and six weeks postpartum.
  • Pap smear at 6 week visit.
  • Midwife on-call availability 24/7 for emergencies and from 37-42 weeks for labor/birth.
  • Use of our resource library.

This fee does not include lab fees, ultrasound costs, herbs, supplements, Rh immunoglobulin for Rh (-) women, Newborn Metabolic Screen ($60), or Childbirth Education classes.

  • Method of Payment:

Most clients pay out of pocket, with many getting the fee reimbursed by insurance.   We recommend you contact your insurance company for more information on your coverage.  We will complete the paperwork necessary to file to your insurance company

New Hampshire Medicaid pays for our midwifery services, though not for The Birth House facility fee ($1000.00), for which you would be responsible.

We accept checks, cash, credit card via PayPal, New Hampshire Medicaid and some specific pre-arranged barter.

Refunds/Transfer of Care:

If you transfer care before 37 weeks, fees will be prorated based upon services provided to date, and a refund will be given as appropriate.  A breakdown of fees is available upon request.  If there is a transport to the hospital during labor, a refund will be given for the birth and postpartum fees minus a transport fee. If there is a transport after the birth no refunds will be given.
